Mr ANOULACK CHANTHIVONG (Macquarie Fields—Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, Minister for Industry and Trade, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Minister for Building, and Minister for Corrections) — Congratulations Shawkat (Milie) Islam on being awarded a 2025 NSW Government Community Service Award. Mrs Islam is a committed local community member whose lifelong passion is promoting the Bangla language, culture and traditions. Mrs Islam has been a long-serving teacher and Principal of Bardia Bangla School Inc. Mrs Islam has made extensive contributions to multiculturalism and community harmony. Mrs Islam has been involved in various activities, including annual Cancer Council fundraising; raising awareness of domestic and family violence; and involvement in the Aus‑Bangla Creative Women's Charity to promote literacy, cultural heritage and women's empowerment. Mrs Islam featured in a documentary organised by the Association of Community Language Schools and funded by Multicultural NSW, showcasing the vital role of community language schools. Mrs Islam's involvement in the Bangla School has earned her many honours, including a finalist in the Campbelltown Citizen of the Year 2021. Mrs Islam is passionate about education, cultural connections and meaningful service to community. I congratulate Mrs Islam on this award recognising her valuable service to our local community.
