Progress is well underway on the new high school in Edmondson Park, with feedback being sought on the school’s proposed name and the foundation principal appointed.
The school’s proposed name, Edmondson Park High School, has been identified through consultation with the Geographical Names Board, in alignment with the Department of Education’s naming guidelines, and the suitability of the name of the high school which sits alongside the Edmondson Park Public School.
Local residents can provide feedback on the school’s proposed name via an online survey until Sunday 27 July 20025 at 11.59pm by clicking on the following link – Help us finalise the name for the new high school in Edmondson Park
After a competitive merit process, Mr Gareth Smith has been appointed as the foundation principal of the new high school in Edmondson Park.
Mr Smith has 18 years of leadership experience, including eight years as principal of Casula High School.
“I’m honoured to join the Edmondson Park High School community ahead of its opening in 2027.
I’m excited by the school’s progress and the design of modern, purpose-built learning spaces,”
Mr Smith said.
“I am incredibly excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of our students.”
With earthworks now complete, structural work is progressing to construct the new school buildings.
During July, works will begin to install new traffic features to improve safety and efficiency around the site, such as extended bus bays, pedestrian crossings, kiss and drop off areas and a new roundabout to the Buchan Avenue and Horrie Road intersection.
Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong MP, said the new high school would be transformative for local families and students.
“The new high school will provide a much-needed resource for our students and local community.
“With the region continuing to grow, this investment is essential for meeting the increasing demand for quality public schooling.
“I’m thrilled to watch progress of this vital project and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our community.”
The new high school in Edmondson Park will accommodate up to 800 students and include fit-for-purpose classrooms and core facilities to meet enrolment demand in Edmondson Park and support the growing population in South-West Sydney.
The project is on track for completion by Day 1, Term 1, 2027.
As part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education, the 2025-26 Budget is delivering $3.9 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world-class public education.
