Edmondson Park Station - Delayed car parking promise disappoints locals

16 December 2019

The ongoing commuter car parking crisis at Edmondson Park station continues with the disappointing announcement today that a car park will not be completed until 2021.

Anne Stanley MP, Federal Member for Werriwa, and Anoulack Chanthivong MP, State Member for Macquarie Fields, have long campaigned for extra parking and have routinely tried to keep the Liberal Government honest over its election promise to start construction on a new car park this year.

Ms Stanley said: “We knew the Liberal Government would not deliver the car park that they promised during the State election campaign.

“The Premier and the Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons, promised 700 spaces to be completed by mid-2020.

“Today’s announcement comes as a major disappointment to me and my community who will continue to be without the promised multistorey car park for another year and a half.”

State Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong, said while commuters would welcome the extra 2000 spaces announced today, they would be pulling their hair out in frustration for having to wait even longer for parking relief.

“The Liberal Government already broke one election promise to start construction on a new car park this year when it failed to allocate construction money in the Budget,” he said.

“The reality is that under this Liberal Government the commuter car parking crisis at Edmondson Park will continue because they continually prove they can’t be trusted to keep their word.

“Today’s announcement is an admission that they’ve derailed their original promise to start construction this year. The Liberal Government continues to delay building simple infrastructure for our community whilst collecting millions in stamp duty from local residents.”
